Solomon lawyers in Fiji to attend RRRT workshop safe after accident

Four lawyers from Solomon Islands who are in Fiji for a workshop are reportedly safe after an accident shortly after arriving in Nadi, Sunday evening.

The lawyers, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ronald Talasasa and three other lawyers - Sophia Munamua, Emma Garo and Francis Waleanisia left the country for Fiji for a Workshop organised by the Pacific Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT).

A report from Fiji says upon arrival, the lawyers and a family, also from Solomon Islands boarded a mini-van for Pacific Harbour.

It says after passing Sigatoka (a small town about 1 hour drive from Nadi Airport), the mini-van hit a youth who was apparently drunk and running towards the van, although the driver tried his best to avoid him.

The youth sustained serious injuries to his head, whilst the driver had a small injury to his hand.

The rest of the passengers were okay, but shaken. Police and the Deputy Director of Public Prosecution in Fiji have been informed of the incident.
