Guadalcanal Province purchases passenger vessel to address rural shipping needs
The Provincial government has announced that a provincial delegation was in Taiwan a fortnight ago and had identified a passenger vessel for the province.
Part payment for the vessel, the M.V PITUVACHA, has already been met by the province, while the Republic Of China,Taiwan through the national government has also pledged its assistance towards purchase of the vessel.
The total cost of bringing the Vessel from Taiwan is over three million dollars (SBD$3 million).
Provincial Affairs Minister, Henry Eric told the people of South Guadalcanal during a reconciliation at Haliatu yesterday that the provincial administration is aware of their transport problems and will make sure it provides a shipping service before the end of the year.
