Honiara city council launches urban youth project

The murals of the Chinatown Overpass Bridge has been officially launched.

Dubbed the "Gateway Murals", the project is one of 15 key youth projects under the Honiara City Council's 2006 Urban Youth Policy.

The project was a joint-venture by the Honiara City Council, ANZ Bank and the Honiara Beautification Committee.

Lord Mayor, Alfred Maetia says the mural project is a result of consultations between the Council and school students and youths to identify how the murals would help portray young people's interest and views.

Mr Maetia also said that the Council's development of its youth policy indicates their commitment to Honiara's youth.

He said that the mural project is only one of the many schemes the Council will deliver this year to young people.

The murals were drawn by ten young unemployed artists.

The Council's next project is a Youth Arts and Cultural Festival planned for July.
