Taiwanese Ambassador encourages students at Selco to work hard and succeed

Taiwanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands George Chan says he hopes for the day Solomon Islands will attain its goal of basic education for all its people. Ambassador Chan was speaking as the quest of honour at yesterday's prize giving ceremony for Selwyn College National Secondary School on west Guadalcanal.

SIBC reports from the school quoted Mr Chan as encouraging students of Selwyn College to contribute to the success of Solomon Islands by doing their part in schools.

Mr Chan told the gathering of guests, parents, staff and students today that the key to economic success on any country lies in its human resources. He says human resources build up requires continued education, training, research and development spending.

Ambassador Chan says students can play an important role in the country's economic success by just studying hard and succeeding in their education. Hundreds of parents and officials from the Church of Melanesia were part the school's annual prize giving day.

Yesterday's prize giving day at Selwyn College was the first official engagement for Ambassador Chan outside of Honiara since taking up his post in Solomon Islands two weeks ago.
