North Malaita MP calls on gov't to fulfill reconciliation promise

Government is being called on to speed up the process of reconciliation among victims of the ethnic tension.

The leader of the Independent members of Parliament, Daniel Enele Kwanairara says he believes reconciliation is the only prerequisite to a meaningful and lasting peace.

He says thousands of people still suffer from stress and trauma caused by destruction of properties, loss of relatives and displacement during the ethnic crises.

Mr Kwanairara says a cross section of the population, which includes women, children, youths and the elderly seriously affected by cruelty and brutality are still left without any counseling and reconciliation.

The leader of the Independent Parliamentarians has warned of severe social consequences if the problems of people who suffer are not resolved amicably.

Mr Kwanairara reminds Government of its promise on taking office early this year to prioritise the national reconciliation programme.
