RAMSI to remain under Rini's reign: No timeline given
At a press conference minutes after his successful election as prime minister, Rini told the media that there is no time line for RAMSI. He said: “RAMSI will leave only when security is in place.” He said as long as there is no confidence that Solomon Islands would manage its own security, RAMSI would be here to stay.
“My government will put more resources into the Departments of National Reconciliation and Peace and Police and national Security. This will enable people from Guadalcanal to organize reconciliations among themselves and also Malaitans to do the same.
“These reconciliations would pave the way for two provinces (Guadalcanal and Malaita) to come together,” the Prime Minister elect said. He said his government would continue with the previous government’s work programme. His government, he said, would also work closely with development partners.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister elected said his government would retain 20 ministerial portfolios that the previous government had created.
