TARD Chairman at USP Laucala elected to become SISA's President making it the first for To'abaita region

Solomon Islands students at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji have elected a new Solomon Islands Student Association (SISA) executive on Friday last week.

The results saw current TARD Chairman, Mr Peter Fairamoa winning the President's post ahead of another three candidates, to make it the first in history for any To'abaita student to hold the SISA presidency at USP's Laucala Campus.

Mr Fairamoa was declared the winner after collecting 163 votes ahead of his next rival Robert Manakaea who obtained 142 votes. Kadesh Hikohaikeni got 42 votes while Jerome Asipara recorded 17 votes.

For the vice president's post, Trevor Manemahaga was declared the winner with 143 votes while the remaining votes were shared between Simon Mau, 90; Lenny Konamauri, 61; Steven Otto, 39; and Alex Buani, 32.

The position of Treasurer was won by Johnson Sokeni after claiming 120 votes ahead of John Rohi who collected 90 votes. Rexon Ramofafia attained 66 votes, John Oiuru, 54 and Seth Tamua, 35 votes.

The last position to be filled is for the SISA Secretary, which was easily won by Ms Pamela Naesol with 196 votes ahead of Coldrin Kolae who collected 169 votes.

It is understood the total number of valid votes casted was 365 slightly higher than last year's turnout of 327.

The executive will now be responsible for coordinating SISA activities and programs over the next remaining months until October next year.
