RAMSI Congratulates Tuvalu and Palau on their Independence Days

The Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) today congratulated Tuvalu and Palau on the occasion of their national Independence Days.

Acting RAMSI Special Coordinator, Jonathan Austin, said both Tuvalu and Palau had given continued support for RAMSI since joining in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

“Since joining RAMSI both Tuvalu and Palau have continued to show a strong commitment to the mission.” Dr Austin said.

“On behalf of all members of the mission, we wish these two countries well on their Independence Day celebrations,” he said.

Dr Austin said everyone appreciated the efforts of Tuvalu and Palau in support of RAMSI’s partnership with Solomon Islands and the mutual goal of building a safe, well-governed and prosperous nation.

He said he would particularly like to congratulate the two Tuvaluan and two Palauan police officers currently serving in the mission.

“A nation’s efforts in the end come down to the efforts of the individual and as everyone who is serving in RAMSI knows it is not easy to be away from home and family.”

Dr Austin said the strong support RAMSI has received from the region and its peoples is what has made the mission so resilient.

“Without the contribution and commitment of the Pacific nations RAMSI would not be enjoying the level of success it has today, their participation in the mission is crucial,” he said.

Tuvalu has provided police officers to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands since December 2004 while Palau joined the mission in May 2006.
