Wrestling lad adds a Silver medal to Solomons tally at Samoa SPG while Leong advances to semifinals

The Solomon Islands wrestling team has today added a Silver medal to the nation's medal tally at the South Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, thanks to James Shatya who competed in the Greco 74kg and won the silver-ware.

The Gold was grabbed by Keitani Graham of FSM while the bronze was awarded to Samoa's Saufoi Togia. All other Solomons wrestlers in different weight categories missed out on medal positions including old-hand Katea Ueresi who only settled for fourth in the Greco 66kg.

In the latest on Tennis, Solomons tennis medal hopeful Michael Leong easily cruised past his Samoan opponent in the Quarterfinals of the Men's Singles this afternoon despite strong vocal support from the home crowd. He defeated Leon So'onalole of Samoa by two straight sets of 6-2, 6-3. He will now meet New Caledonian Julien Couly in the semifinals tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the results for the Solomons Doubles quarterfinal match with American Samoa today is still not available. Solomon Islands is represented in the Mens doubles by Michael Leong and Junior Kari.
