TARD appoints new Suva based executive to spearhead the youth group's vision

The To'abaita Authority for Research and Development (TARD) student volunteer group has appointed a new Suva based executive to spearhead the group's goals and objectives in a recent meeting late last month.

The new executive consists of Mr Peter Fairamoa (Chairman); Mr George Ganiau (Vice Chairman), Hubert Baselo (Treasurer) and Jillian Fa'afunua (Secretary). The new appointments came about after the former founding chairman who is now the group's technical advisor, Exsley Taloiburi, has moved on to pursue further studies in Australia. The secretary's position was also vacant after Steven Filiomea has moved from Suva to Nadi to study at the Nadi flight school early this year.

Various community projects that the new executive will be pursuing for the end of this year include a 3 weeks sports (soccer and netball) coaching workshop in North Malaita in partnership with Mahitahi New Zealand; 2007 North Malaita christmas games; recording of North Malaita traditional chants and music; and other community initiatives.

TARD is a neutral, non-profit, "youth initiated, youth led" volunteer group established in August 2005 by To'abaita (a geographical region in Solomon Islands) university students studying in Fiji, with a goal to bridge community development barriers and pursue potential rural community initiatives and aspirations for North Malaita Constituency, Malaita Province, Solomon Islands.

We are also committed to promote community awareness on important issues including gender equality, human rights, health and sanitation, education, cultural preservation, and good governance in the North Malaita Constituency. TARD membership currently comprises more than fifty scholars and young working elites in several countries throughout the Pacific. We hope to achieve our vision by working in partnership with the national government, provincial leaders, rural communities, and genuine donors.
