World Athletics Day celebration draws big crowd in Malaita's Auki town

This year's world athletics day celebration in Malaita provincial capital, Auki has attracted a huge turn-out of around 762 athletes.

According to the Athletic Solomons website, this is the first time for the world athletics day celebration to be hosted in the province apart from Honiara where it was always held.

The athletes that participated in the competition consists of those from school clubs and interested individuals.

Athletic Solomons reported that the total number of officials who officiated during the competition was 30 of whom 9 were females and 21 were males.

It is understood all the participants have enjoyed this year's celebration to the fullest and prizes were also allocated to the winners of different races.
