Solomons Opposition warns of economic impact of unresolved Moti affair

Solomon Islands' opposition Finance spokesman is warning of an economic backlash if fugitive Australian lawyer Julian Moti is appointed the country's attorney general.

Edward Huniehu says investors are worried about the government's apparent interference in the legal system, and the plans to appoint Mr Moti, attorney general.

Mr Moti is wanted in Australia on child sex charges, and since October the Solomons' Public Service Commission has suspended his appointment.

But the prime minister is looking to have that suspension lifted to allow Mr Moti to take office.

Mr Huniehu says the government's actions are making the business community and potential investors nervous.
