SI Government soon to finalise its rural development policy implementers in the country's fifty constituencies

The government is embarking on its "Bottom-Up Approach" or rural development policy with the appointment of community development officers.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says applicants for 50 Constituency Community Development Officers are being interviewed to help in the rural development.

He says the Government would soon place these officers in the constituencies.

"The idea as you know is to adopt a bottom-up approach to everything. That includes the planning process, the budgeting process, the identification of projects, monitoring of projects, all this aspects of getting projects done in the rural areas will have to be done from a bottom-up approach. In order for that to happen, we need to have a set up right in the constituency level to support that kind of thinking."

Mr Sogavare says the government is encouraging Constituencies to find place to host the setup.

He says the Constituency Community Development Officers will cooperate with existing systems including Provincial Governments because they will be dealing with the same issues.
