Fiji's Jahir Khan to be sworn in as Solomons new Police Commissioner tomorrow

Fiji's former senior superintendent of Police, Jahir Khan (pictured) will be sworn in as Solomon Islands new police commissioner in Honiara tomorrow, after the position has been left vacant folowing the declaration of Shane Castles as persona non grata by the Sogavare government in December last year following a controversial probe into the government's role in allowing a fugitive Australian lawyer, Fiji-born Julian Moti, into the country.

Reports obtained by TARD from Honiara revealed that Jahir Khan has accepted the position of Solomons top cop and is set to be sworn-in, just one week after being invited to Honiara by the Solomon Islands government on Tuesday May 8 to formalise his three year contract.

Mr Khan is understood to have served as Fiji’s Assistant Police Commissioner Operations before taking up the Police Commissioner's post in Solomon Islands.

Khan earlier told Fijilive.com on Monday May 7 before flying to Honiara the next day that he will sign his contract right away if the employment conditions are favourable.

He added the salary being offered is substantially more than what he is currently being paid in Fiji.

Khan stated he will return to Suva and apply to retire from the Fiji Police Force before taking up his new appointment in about a month. However, it is not confirmed what the arrangement would be like as he will be sworn in tomorrow just after one week and not even a month as anticipated earlier.
