Health clinic in Lau/Baelelea Constituency razed down by fire

A health clinic at Kwailabesi in the Lau-Mbaelelea Constituency in North Malaita was razed by fire over the weekend.

Provincial Assembly member for Takwa Ward, Ben Foukona, says the fire which destroyed the clinic reportedly started from a leaking gas cylinder.

He says the clinic is operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

"It's a concrete clinic, has an outpatient, administration rooms and a maternity room. It looks as out of the clinics in the Northern region of Malaita, it is the best."

Mr Foukona says he is working with the MP for Lau-Mbaelelea, Samuel Bently Ragosomani, to seek help to assess the damage and find ways to re-build the health clinic. The clinic serves about ten thousand people.
