Consultation on land inquiry framework begins with provincial executives of Guadalcanal and Malaita

By Deli Oso/PM Press Secretary

Consultation on the Terms of Reference for the Commission of Inquiry into Land Dealings on Guadalcanal has started.

Secretary to the Steering Committee for the proposed Commission, Christopher Waiwori of the Prime Minister’s Press and Research Office said the committee held its first consultative meeting with the Guadalcanal Provincial Government executive in Honiara yesterday.

Mr Waiwori said the second meeting would be held with the Malaita Provincial Government executive in Auki on Thursday this week. He said the consultation was aimed at getting the views of the two provincial governments on the Commission of Inquiry and its Terms of Reference.

Mr Waiwori said the Commission of Inquiry was a component of the national healing and reconciliation process methodology taken by the government.

He said the Steering Committee was established to do the preliminary work for the Commission of Inquiry which the government proposed to formally establish in April this year.
