SI Opposition leader calls for thorough investigation into alleged murder plot against Sogavare

The Solomon Islands Parliamentary Opposition has called on police investigators to thoroughly investigate the alleged assassination plot to kill the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare.

Opposition Leader Fred Fono says those involved in the alleged plot must be apprehended and face the full force of the law.

He says Solomon Islands must not allow people who plan to harm national leaders go unpunished.

Mr Fono says police investigations must also find out whether or not there was indeed a plot to kill the Prime Minister.

Mr Fono says it is hoped the reported plot was not an attempt to beef up support for his government's plan to re-arm the police force nor was it an attempt to gain sympathy because of what appears to be a dwindling support for the Prime Minister's leadership.
