Solomon Islands government will not tolerate return of police commissioner

The Solomon Islands Government has warned that it will never tolerate any intentions by the former Police Commissioner, Mr Shane Castles, to return to Honiara when his leave ends at the end of this month.

In a press conference yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration Patterson Oti highlighted the banned Police Commissioner, Mr Castles would face arrest if he turns up in Honiara as he is not welcomed back in the country because he abused his powers in the role.

Mr Oti added if Mr Castles turns up in Honiara anytime soon, he would have breached the immigration act.

Mr Oti says the decision to ban Mr Catles from re-entering the country was based on his role in the 2006 Honiara riots and the Police raid on the Prime Minister's office. He says no country would tolerate the bashing down of the door to the Prime Minister's office and not having to even justify his actions or being held accountable.

Mr Oti further stated the declaration that Mr Castles was an undesirable immigrant had nothing to do with the Julian Moti affair.
