Solomon Islands Government promises to strengthen village living quality

The Solomon Islands Grand Coalition for Change government says it hopes to reverse over centralisation of both governance and the national economy which had gripped the country for over a century.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr John Roughan says government will address the century old problem with its rural development strategy which begins in earnest this year.

Dr Roughan says in an article he published in the print media that government prefers to call it's rural development initiative, strengthening the quality of village living.

He says once the 2007 budget is passed at the end of January, there must not be any delay in beginning to reverse the 113 years which reduced villagers to mere spectators in the creation of their own futures.

Dr Roughan says he will share his vision of what a village-led Solomon Islands could look like in another media publications he plans to put out next week.
