Oti to explain reasons why Police Commissioner is declared "undesirable immigrant" today

The Solomon Islands Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration Minister, Hon Patteson Oti is expected to explain why he declared Police Commissioner Shane Castles an "undesirable immigrant" today at 11am (SI time).

Hon Oti made the declaration Friday 22nd December 2006, then reportedly shoot off for the festive season break in his home island of Santa Cruz, Temotu Province. The Minister's action has received mixed reactions, some supporting it while others criticised it. Whilst the government continues to defend the action, Mr Oti had not publicly comment on it.

A planned press conference for 3pm yesterday was cancelled by the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Deli Oso saying it was postponed until today morning.

It is understood both the local and international press are eager to listen and then drilled him on an issue he earlier said "in view of the sensitivity of the matter," he was "not at liberty to publicly disclose all of the reasons why Mr Castles had to be declared an undesirable immigrant.

Mr Oti had said Mr Castles' return and continued presence in Solomon Islands was considered prejudicial to the peace, defence, public safety, public order, public morality, security and good government of Solomon Islands.
