North Malaita student says it's too early to adopt State Government

A North Malaita student who is doing public policy and management at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG)has spoke out against plans for Solomon Islands to adopt a federal system of government.

Fred Irofiau Ota'au says it is still too early for Solomon Islands to adopt this system of government, because the country is still recovering from the social unrest of 2000, and the recent Chinatown incident.

Ota'au says the current government should prioritise solving the nations past and present social issues before adopting a federal system of government.

One of the current government's key objectives for 2007 is the implementation of a federal state government system.
