Henry Fa'arodo scores early goal to help Canterbury down Wellington 4-1

Another Solomon Islands player in the New Zealand Football Championship, Henry Fa'arodo, has scored an early goal to help his Canterbury United side beat Team Wellington 4-1 on Saturday at English Park, Christchurch.

The weekend's victory is Canterbury's fifth in a row and moves them up to third in the table as Auckland City were held to a 1-1 draw by Waikato FC. Waitakere's 2-0 win against YoungHeart Manawatu over the weekend has also opened a comfortable four point lead with 28 points ahead of Manawatu's 24 points.

During the Canterbury and Wellington match, three Canterbury goals were scored in the opening half with Henry Fa'arodo getting his side off to a flyer with a goal inside three minutes. The first goal came after Henry Fa'arodo chips the ball over the advancing Wellington goal keeper into an empty net.

Brent Fisher added the second six minutes before the break and Nathan Knox all but wrapped up the points for Canterbury with a third on the stroke of halftime.

Wellington did have their chances in this game and Graham Little gave them some hope with a 56th minute strike. However that was cancelled out almost immediately with Brent Fisher getting his second to seal the win for Canterbury.

Canterbury coach Danny Halligan was delighted with his side's performance.
