Governor General urges Government to establish a Solomon Islands University

Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena has urged the Government to seriously consider developing a university for Solomon Islanders.

In his New Year message Sir Waena said the recent military take over of the Fiji Government last December should be a cause for concern to the Solomon Islands government.

He says the country's population growth of talented citizens, and the large number of students at various Universities is adequate proof that a university for Solomon Islands should be established.

Sir Nathaniel says this would provide opportunity to the many forms six and seven students, who are currently unable to receive university education.
