Commodore Bainimarama is Fiji's new Interim PM
This comes just a day after the commander handed executive authority of the country back to the ousted President Ratu Iloilo. It is understood the swearing in was witnessed by senior miltary officers and members of the media both locally and internationally. The ceremony was broadcasted live on local radio stations in Fiji.
The new interim Prime Minister is expected to deliver his national address later this afternoon. Members of the interim government are also expected to be sworn in soon.
Meanwhile, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will remain as Fiji's army commander despite being sworn in as Interim Prime Minister half an hour ago. Navy captain and military chief of staff Esala Teleni, however, will handle operations at the army camp. Earlier in the week it was confirmed that Capt Teleni was appopinted Deputy Commander.
