Banned Police Commissioner maintains his authority on the position

The person declared by government as an undesirable immigrant maintains he is the lawful Commissioner of Solomon Islands Police Force.

Shane Castles told SIBC News from Australia where he's taking his annual leave that he intends to return to Solomon Islands at the end of his leave.

Mr Castles says he still regards himself as the legal office holder of the Commissioner of Police in Solomon Islands. He says the government has not even informed him officially of its decision declaring him an undesirable immigrant.

Mr Castles says he will consider his legal position when the government informs him of the justification of its actions.

Asked about the government's move looking for a replacement, he says that was the prerogative of the government. Mr Castles' contract should end in April 2007.
