Sogavare government defeated opposition's motion of no confidence
The motion was defeated by 28 to 17. Five did not vote including the two MPs in custody, namely Nelson Ne'e and Charles Dausabea.
Parliamentary Opposition leader Fred Fono moved the no confidence motion in parliament yesterday morning.
Mr Fono says he had moved the motion against Mr Sogavare because he had failed to fulfil delivering services promised to the people since taking office.
Meanwhile, the ABC News has reported that the diplomatic rift between Australia and the Solomon Islands looks set to deepen after the Solomons' Prime Minister, Manesseh Sogavare, survived a vote of no confidence against him.
This was attributed to Mr Sogavare accusing the John Howard government of using the Solomons Opposition Party to try and oust him.
