SI Prime Minister urges productive-sector Ministries to lead development process
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare urged the productive-sector ministries to take a leading role in the development process as the government seeks to redress weaknesses affecting development in the country.
Those include the Departments of Forestry, Fisheries, Mining, Lands, Commerce and Tourism.
Speaking at the official launch of the Government Policy Translation and Implementation Document Mr Sogavare said these departments had a significant responsibility to lead the government’s aim to transform the country’s economic development into reality.
“These ministries have a serious responsibility to ensure that our resources and potentials are developed by developers that are responsible and committed to the principles of sustainable development,” Mr Sogavare said.
As the country is getting closer to adopting the Federal System of Government, Mr Sogavare believes that more challenges will emerge which requires a lot of commitment from all stakeholders including government ministries.
“The achievement of these important challenges requires nothing short of unreserved commitment and teamwork by all of us.
“Ministries that are responsible for the development of the productive sector are the front-liners in taking on these challenges,” the Prime Minister said.
Mr Sogavare acknowledged that previous development policies were not properly utilized and his government was seriously seeking the best remedies to rescue the country from remaining stagnant.
