Malaita Maasina wants explanation on projects for Malaita Province

The Malaita Maasina Forum is appealing to the government to update the people about the progress of two major projects proposed for the Province.

Secretary to the Forum William Gua says the people want to hear about the progress of Auluta Palm Oil Project in East Malaita and the Bina Harbour Industrial area project in west Kwaio.

Mr Gua says the Forum had since May this given the present government some of their concerns for Malaita.

"We feel that the government of he day is silent on the two projects, so I served a notice on the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, one for the Commerce so that they give the progress report on the projects. We want the government to inform us about the progress of the projects so that we will let the people of the province know because the government seems not to be doing anything."

Mr Gua says there is a need for the government to speed up the projects to ensure people from Malaita go back and be part of that development.

He says the issue of Malaitans looking for work in Honiara and other provinces can be a problem to others, and if development takes place on Malaita, any potential troubles in those places can be reduced.
