Football News: Abraham Iniga becomes Solomons hottest property

By Francis Pituvaka

Abraham Iniga is currently Solomon Islands hottest property in players market as he is being sought by two PNG National Soccer League franchise and a New Zealand club Manawatu FC.

The Marist FC forward and Solomon Islands international, today, rates among the top strikers list in Solomon Islands. This week alone he has three offers dished out before him on a plate however, it is unclear at this stage which of the three he will take.

One of the three offers come from PRK Souths United which played against Marist FC in Honiara when the country celebrated its 27th Anniversary of Independence in July.
Already a handful of Solomon Islands players including former Marist FC striker and Solomon Islands international Jack Samani are plying their trade in PNG with the NSL bound PRK Souths United. About six other Solomon Islanders have been recruited by the club-some of whom are students at the tertiary institution(s) there.

Solomon Islands Football Federation Development officer Noel Wagapu confirms receiving requests from other clubs in PNG for Solomon Islands players. He says the country's successes in international football in recent years has seen a dramatic shift in the movement of players with many Solomon Islanders now plying their trade in other national associations in the region. With this change, he says he is confident many more players will sign lucrative contracts with overseas clubs in the not too distant future.

Meanwhile, another Solomon Islands sensation, Benjamin Totori who made headlines in his first season in New Zealand with Manawatu FC is close to signing another contract with another Kiwi football club. No other detail is available but is it likely he will join the new club before the national competition in New Zealand starts.
