Solomon Islands Government plans to adopt open sky policy

Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare says his Government will be seriously considering the idea of an open sky policy.

In an interview with SIBC News, the Prime Minister says the idea of an open-sky policy is one of the many options Government wants to look at in an attempt to reduce air travel costs in the country.

Mr Sogavare says currently Solomon Islands has one of the most expensive air travel costs in the world.

He sighted an example about of the cost of a three-hour flight from Honiara to Brisbane, Australia as being equivalent to the cost of travelling Brisbane to Heathrow, London and back.

The Prime Minister says Government needs to come up with new policy initiatives which will open up the aviation and airline industry for competition in order to bring down costs and promote the tourism industry.
