SI Government's Policy focuses on Sustainable Development
In a paper presented to FEMM on Tuesday, Mr Oti said to avoid repeating Solomon Islands recent history of stop-start growth, development must occur in the rural areas as well as in the main urban centres.
He said the Policy Framework Document recognizes that the only way to a sustainable growth is if Solomon Islanders share the outcomes of progress.
Mr Oti said that the document’s action plan is the promotion of regional friendly policies, one of which is moving decision-making closer to the people in the provinces and rural areas.
He said the National Government will support this by pursuing good governance including fiscal sustainability, prudent debt management, and improving transparency and accountability.
Mr Oti said that in supporting economic recovery, government must improve access to credit for rural borrowers and small business, improve power, water and shipping facilities and ensure resource owners have adequate control of their resources.
He said the government will make it easier to operate a business in Solomon Islands through changes to immigration and general business law and tax reform.
