SI celebrate Independence with soccer International match
The country's 28th independence anniversary celebration in Honiara will be marked with two international friendly matches between the visiting PNG club side - and local teams today and tomorrow at Lawson Tama.
The Port Moresby based club will arrive this this morning and play Marist in the afternoon with their second international friendly with the Solomon Islands National Under 20 select side tomorrow.
The two matches will give the visiting team much needed exposure as they prepare for the franchise league and importantly build friendship with Solomon Islands football family.
It will be the first visit by a PNG club side and SIFF welcomes this with open hands as it will foster greater football relationship with our Melanesian neighbours. PRK Souths FC's match with the national Under 20 Select side will provide an opportunity for selectors to see the local boys in action as they begin their preparation for the Oceania Football Confederation's Under 20 competition in Auckland New Zealand in 2007.
SIFF anticipates a huge crowd to flood Lawson Tama for both matches because of the long absence of international soccer matches. Meanwhile, patrons wishing to watch the two matches will pay a minimal gate fee at Lawson Tama.
