Malaita signs MOU for promotion of organic farming development

Malaita Province and Cosmo Oil and Asia Pacific Sustainable Development have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting organic farming development.

Premier Reuben Moli signed on behalf of Malaita province while representative of Cosmos Oil Kenichi Shirafuji signed for Cosmos Oil and Asia Pacific Sustainable Development, ASPD.

The MOU effectively sealed cooperation between the provincial government and ASPD.

Under the MOU, Malaita Province has the right to use two vehicles donated by Cosmo Oil Company Limited through APSD, for the purpose of the development and promotion of organic production and tropical rainforest conservation.

Through this new level of cooperation, Malaita Promotes hopes to encourage its rural farmers to move from shifting cultivation to permanent agriculture.

A report from Auki says this will be done through training of rural farmers at the APSD Perma Culture Center at Fiu.

Following the signing, Premier Moli thanked the Cosmo Oil Company Limited and APSD, for recognizing the efforts of his government in the implementation of its policy on sustainable development, as it relates to organic farming in the Province.
